As a band, TIED has been through many changes. Since we began in 2003, we’ve said hello and goodbye to some good friends and talented musicians (Daniel, Moe, Ryan, Spencer, Gerald, Jarrod, Ryan, Jaymz, Eric, Dave, and Jesus). Our original 5 members changed, and grew into a record 9 people at one time. Now, we’re at 5 members, but only two of us are original (Mathew & Taylor).
We are blessed to have our four newest members with us because they are also very talented and bring a lot to the band (Alan, Hollie, Rebecca and Brian). As our members have changed and grown, so, too, has our style and musicianship. We now play a combination of Christian rock, praise and worship, with a little bit of alternative thrown in for fun. The one thing that has not changed is our purpose and mission. We exist solely to give praise back to the God who created and saved us. Yep, we are unashamedly in love with the one and only Jesus Christ. Any ability that we have, and any success that we have enjoyed is totally a reflection of what Christ has done in and for us. Our purpose and mission is kind of how we got our name: We want everything we do to be TIED back to God. From God’s perspective, that probably has its drawbacks. Let’s face it, we’re only human.
So, when we say we’re TIED to God, He gets the good, the bad, and the ugly. What I mean is, sometimes, as Christians, we fail miserably to portray the agape love of God to each other, to our families, and to our community. We know that it reflects on God when we fail. But, that is the great thing about God. He doesn’t love us because we’re good, He loves us because, by ourselves, we can’t be good. Anything good in us is because of Him. When we remember that, and practice living it in our lives, we experience some success at music ministry. When we get to thinking about how good we are, it’s not long before we totally bomb.
I guess our name, TIED, reminds us to try to keep God at the center of our music. God has opened so many doors for us. He has allowed us to play for some really great churches, retreats and theaters, write some cool music and record our first CD. We have met some really great people, many of whom have become great friends. Right now, our plan is to keep playing for Him and spreading His message of love and hope to anyone who will listen.
