Most of our events take place at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. Often called "the LJ," you will find this is the perfect location for gathering with friends in a fun and safe environment. Located near Asheville, NC in a high mountain valley, summers here are cooler and less humid then most places in the southeast. With over 1200 acres and a 200 acre lake, there is space here for everyone.
During the summer, most groups stay at Sunnyside, Mountainview, Lakeside and the Junaluska Apartments. All provide the basics of a good place to crash after a full day of fun. They are also located near Shackford Hall, Kern building and Jones cafeteria.
There are plenty of activities within walking distance of the lodging. These including sand volleyball, tennis, basketball and mini-golf. If getting wet sounds like fun, check out the aquatic center with an outdoor pool, paddle boats and canoes. Looking for a big walk? Check out the 2.6 mile long trail that circles Lake Junaluska.
For an adventure beyond the bonds of the LJ, go whitewater rafting with our partner Nantahala Outdoor Center - NOC, or hug a tree at the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You won't find strip malls at either one of these places!
During the winter, most groups stay at the Terrace Hotel and frequently visit the Kern Youth Center for hot drinks,
snacks and games before and after the worship sessions. For all your ski needs, Catalooche Ski Area and Wolf Laurel provide a safe and fun environment. They both offer ski equipment and classes. Check the resources link under the youth leaders page to find out what else you can do while you are here during the winter.
